Quinlan Farms was started by Walter and Gail Quinlan in the early 80's. Working along with their parents sons Donald and Chad developed their passion for farming. Today they run the farm along with their wives Kelly and April. Quinlan Farms is very much a family farm with 3 generations working on the farm.
Soil health has always been an important part of our farming operation. We started Notill farming in the early 90's. This has expanded over the years to include cover crops and more diverse crop rotation. We are now plant a large portion of our crops into a living cover crop. This helps conserve moisture, suppress weeds and recycle nutrients. Our goal is to limit amount of synthetic fertilizers we use on our farm and keep our soil and nutrients on our land and out of our waterways
We get asked a lot what does pasture raised mean? On our farm that means our animals spend their time outdoors and grazing on plants . We provide our animals with shelter from the elements but those structure our portable too. Once the animals eat down the plants in the pasture they get moved to new section of pasture. This allows the animals space and the environment to do what they were meant to do. This also spreads their manure out as they move around and fertilize the soil for us. All these factors provide a better finished product to the customer.
Our pigs are raised outdoors where they munch on cover crops and root around in the soil. They are out on an open pasture where we move them to a new section of pasture every week. We give them a buffet of different plants species in our pasture giving them lots of choices on what to eat. All of out feed is free of hormones and antibiotics. All these factors gives our pork a delicious flavour that you will notice right away.
We raise our chicken outdoors using portable pens (chicken tractors). Our chickens have access to outdoors right from when they are chicks. Once they get bigger they move from our brooder to our portable pens. There they get eat cover crops and get to access to fresh pasture every 12 hrs. We use a slower growing bird that has more mobility then a modern day chicken you are used to seeing. This also provides a better flavored chicken you will notice right away. All out feed is free of hormones and antibiotics
Our laying hens have access to free range everyday. We house them in a portable hen house that allows us to move it around to make sure our hens have access to fresh pasture all the time. Once you have one of our eggs you wont want to buy any other eggs. First thing you will notice if the dark yellow yolk and then the flavour will win you over. Our hens are fed feed that is free of hormones and antibiotics.
